The Eames DSW chair retails for about £300 each. At the Vitra Showroom Sale this Saturday, a set of 4 — one of the event’s “star buys” — will go to some lucky person for a mere £250! You could be that lucky person, if you’re willing to queue up and perhaps camp out overnight.

At the last Vitra Sample Sale, way back in January 2010, I staggered out of bed at 6am (apparently I will get up early for flights, free breakfast and furniture sample sales but not much else), only to find a long queue in front of the 30 Clerkenwell Rd showroom:

We all pressed our faces against the glass, trying to see the prices and strategising. I came away with nothing, because some folks at the head of the line, who had camped out for *days*, snatched up all the good Eames and Prouvé Standard chairs as us latecomers, held back as they were allowing entry in waves, watched forlornly from outside.

This was the scene inside last year:

This was the Prouvé Standard chair I coveted (I swear it wanted to come home with me too, and gave a little sigh when it was roughly carried off by some dude):

This year they’re changing it up a bit, with the popular home goods for sale on Saturday 26 Nov, and the office stuff during the week, Tue 29 Nov to Thu 1 Dec. You can follow along with the action on Vitra UK’s blog. Good luck!
