A Alicia’s 2012 Lookbook
A Alicia‘s new collection of textile jewellery is gorgeous — rich in texture, colour and personality. Resplendent with pompoms, hand-knit yarn, and hand-embroidered cotton, her pieces are at once cheerful and classy, with a touch of tribal inspiration — just the thing for accessorizing a Little Black Dress, I think!
The pieces are all handmade in London by designer Anna (the ‘A’ in A Alicia), and feature organic fairtrade cotton and vintage chain and ribbon. No wonder they’ve caught the eye of the Wall Street Journal and Design*Sponge, among others.
What also caught my eye was her lookbook — so pretty, so clean!
The lookbook was a collaborative effort, with Anna doing the design and working with photographer Sibell Barrowclough on the styling of the shoot. Hair and make-up were by London-based Dolly and Rhonda.
“They are all great to work with, and I think we all really understand each other, which makes it much easier to create a coherent shoot together!” says Anna.
Long a must-have for fashion designers, I’d love to see more lookbooks from independent designers and designer-makers working with accessories and jewellery, and even home accessories.
Anna does a lookbook about twice a year when she updates or launches a collection. Her top tip: “The most important thing for me is making sure my necklaces don’t get lost or overwhelmed by the styling — keeping it clear that they are the focus. I think that’s often an issue when photographing and presenting jewellery or accessories.”
